How do you get eye liner on without making the line to thick or all messed up?

I've tried millions of times to get eye liner on and it always comes out the same! All messed up and ugly. I don't know how sharp I should put the pencil thingy! Please give me some tips and diretions on this!!How do you get eye liner on without making the line to thick or all messed up?
It's hard to get a clean line with a pencil. I suggest getting an eyeliner brush, then wetting it, dipping it in eyeshadow and using shadow for liner. Alternatively, there are several cream liners that are applied with a brush (MAC Fluidline, Bobbi Brown Gel) that are much easier to control; you can make the line as thick/thin as you'd like. Also, always smudge the line a bit to smoke it out and look less liner-y.How do you get eye liner on without making the line to thick or all messed up?
If I were you, I'd get the crayon, not the pencil. This one you don't sharpen and is easier to apply. It is softer and it doesn't hurt the eye lid. Also, if by accendent, if you poke your eye with it. it won't hurt because it is softer and has a round edge.
Ok make sure the pencil is pretty sharp but slightly dull and pull down your lower lid and line the inside lightly with the pencil. It should come out good and make sure your liner's waterproof so it wont just smudge off.

And if you still cant get it - try paula dorf's shadow transformer (pauladorf.com). With this you can take a transformer brush and put this liquid on it and use your eyeshadow as liner. It's a lot easier to control than a pencil and a great buy!
maybe these videos will help

get an eyeshadow and then use a small angle brush to apply it right above your lash line. Now smudge... do the same for your bottom lashes. this will work i promise!
try using masking tape. it may sound wierd but if youre determined to use a pencil try this..

cut the tape to a really thin piece, so you can align it to your eye lid.

make the pencil sharp.

you can heat the pencil ';lead'; (makeup) with a lighter (not too much! test it by touching it!) or breath on it. not blow on it-that doesnt do anything...but make it warm you know. it makes it soft.

draw it on using the tape as a guide.

when you pull the tape off, the line will be clear and straight. smoke it out by smudging it just a bit.

dont use any tape besides masking tape....trust me itll hurt lol
liquid eye liner can be too runny.

when you have drawn your line with your pencil, if it is too thick, run under it with a cotton bud.
i am not sure about the sharpness but to get it somewhat smoother try warming the pencel by gently rubbing the sides of the color on the back of your hand. if that doesnt work try this get a eyeliner brush wet it and use a darker color of eye shadow for your eyeliner it will feel good putting it on and it will dry to leave a good line . Mary kay eyeshadow works great for this. it is also backed by a 100% satisfaction garentee. check it out at www.marykay,com/jweigel

(free shipping) good luck
Make sure the pencil is sharp, but not as sharp as a real pencil. If it is too dull, the line won't go on clean. I suggest using liquid eyeliner instead on pencil, it is much easier to use. Go to Sephora and look in the ';Urban Decay'; section. They have very good liquid eyeliner. Good luck!
pencil eyeliner is much easier than liquid eyeliner. the pencil doesnt have to be that sharp. when doing the bottem lid, pull it down with your finger and then with your other hand holding the eyeliner pencil on a slaunt draw the line on the ridge just above your lashes. hope this helps. it might not look like theres much on when your applying it but when you stand back there is so just put a bit on and then keep adding more of its not enougth, in time youll work out how much you need. for the top eyelis just try and get it as close as you can to your eyelashes, and practise makes perfect!
